I am very grateful for the immense support from Scarborough Yacht Club . Good friend Emma Nutt who sails with Pete McIntyre on Ruffian first took me out as part of their crew. As they set sail on their summer races to Europe they left me in the safe hands of skipper Steve on Vado followed by Mike on Kassey. I am now part of the regular crew on Kassey and thanks to Mike’s great coaching and lots of patience I took part in the ladies helm race coming an amazing second and then Mike and I went on to win a series race with just the two of us on board.
I enjoy the bay races from Scarborough, on a summers evening there is no better place to be and hopefully the winter series will help me get used to tougher conditions.
From the 4th October 2016 I will be going back to the classroom for 26 weeks to complete the RYA Day Skipper Shore based course at Scarborough Yacht Club. The syllabus includes: both traditional and electronic navigation techniques, the regulations for avoidance of collisions, all aspects of safety and safety equipment, tidal calculations, an insight into meteorology, ropework, anchoring, buoyage & pilotage and the codes of good practice for good seamanship. This will help improve my existing knowledge and skills and complement the Clipper official training programme. Graham & Co Accountants have kindly financed the course for me.
